(This course is designed for the study of the integration of biblical truths and
psychological concepts. It is the viewing of theological implications for the
emotional, spiritual, and relational needs of mankind. The development of a biblical
philosophy for helping others will be developed)

PS - 103                     [3]  GENERAL PSYCHOLOGY

(This course is designed to study the basic facts, principles, and methods in
psychology. An emphasis is placed on the fundamental principles underlying human
behavior)

SS - 103                      [3]  INTRODUCTION TO SOCIOLOGY

(An introduction to the principles of human interaction and the culture it produces.
Basic concepts of social institutions, collective behaviors, culture, and the
personality are discussed)


Second Semester

PS - 203                     [3]         ABNORMAL PSYCHOLOGY

(This course acquaints the student with the various diagnostic categories of
neuroses, psychoses, and character disorders. Current theories that seek to explain
abnormal behaviors are discussed and compared with biblical concepts of mental
illness. The components of good mental health and a well integrated personality are
also considered)

PS - 213                     [3]         INTRODUCTION TO COUNSELING

(This course is designed to explore the personal qualities, skills, and characteristics
of effective pastoral counselors. The different theories/models of counseling will be
studied)

PS - 223                     [3]         ADOLESCENT PSYCHOLOGY

(This course is designed to study the individual from puberty to young adulthood. An
emphasis is placed on the physical, mental, emotional, social and personality growth
of the person. Also, attention is given to guidance toward acceptable behaviors and
the prevention of delinquent behaviors


Third Semester

PS - 233                     [3]         PASTORAL COUNSELING

(This course is designed to acquaint the pastoral counselor with identifying the
various developmental, personal, and religious problems that affect the local church)

SS - 353                     [3]         MARRIAGE AND FAMILY

(This course is designed to acquaint the pastoral counselor with pre-marriage and
marriage relationships, structure and functions of the family as a unit, intra-family
relationships, and early child training. Intra-family tensions and processes are
analyzed)

PS - 212                     [2]         DEATH, GRIEF AND DYING

(This course is designed to acquaint the student with the concepts of death and
grief.  New and different ways to view death will be examined. Death will be viewed
from the responses the responses of and rituals of different cultures. Students are
encouraged to explore the grieving process relative to their own lives. The process
of bereavement, sensitivity to grief, and counseling process will be examined. Social
institutions offering support services will be discussed.)


Fourth Semester

(This course is designed to increase the awareness of the major issues in the caring
and counseling among diverse cultures. The interface of psychology, anthropology,
and pastoral care are examined)

PS - 243                      [3]   MARRIAGE AND FAMILY COUNSELING

(This course is designed to acquaint the student with a biblical view of marriage and
the family. The emphasis will be placed on the biblical view of family life,
contemporary formulations of family dynamics, and a survey of theological
approaches to family counseling)
